The role
Job description
Markage is looking for a Front-end Developer to join our Canadian team in an on-site role based in Calgary, Vancouver, or Toronto. This role focuses on building accessible, responsive, maintainable front-end experiences for websites and digital products. You will turn approved designs and product requirements into production-quality interfaces, work closely with designers and back-end engineers, and take responsibility for browser behaviour, accessibility, performance, maintainability, and implementation quality. You will work with product managers, designers, software engineers, QA, content teams, and client or internal stakeholders. Clear communication, reliable follow-through, and careful work are expected. AI-assisted tools may be used for code documentation, test preparation, technical summaries, accessibility review, debugging support, and development workflows. All AI-assisted work must be reviewed for accuracy, relevance, confidentiality, and fit before it is shared or used.
Essential duties
- Build responsive user interfaces using modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and appropriate front-end frameworks.
- Translate Figma or comparable design specifications into accurate, reusable components and layouts.
- Integrate front-end features with APIs, services, content-management systems, and back-end applications.
- Implement accessible interaction patterns, semantic markup, keyboard support, and responsive behaviour.
- Write maintainable code, tests, documentation, and reusable components appropriate to the project.
- Review and improve page performance, browser compatibility, rendering, and client-side behaviour.
- Participate in code review, debugging, release preparation, and production issue resolution.
- Work with designers to resolve implementation constraints without weakening the intended user experience.
- Follow source-control, security, testing, deployment, and engineering-quality practices.
Essential requirements
- Professional experience building production front-end applications or websites.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, responsive design, and browser behaviour.
- Experience with at least one modern front-end framework such as React, Vue, Angular, or comparable technology.
- Working understanding of accessibility, APIs, Git, testing, and development workflows.
- Holds a valid Dex Professional Specialist Certification (DEX-PSP) in the Information Technology domain.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with design systems, component libraries, or large-scale front-end architecture.
- Experience with Next.js, Nuxt, headless CMS, e-commerce, or similar modern web stacks.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science, software development, or a related field.
